Recertification Reminders

Dr. Don Renchie and Dr. Mary Ketchersid

No Social Security Numbers Required

Noncommercial and Private applicators are not required to use their Social Security numbers (SSN) as identification when they attend pesticide applicator training classes. In years past, producers could present a valid pesticide applicator license, their drivers license or

their SSN to receive credit for the training. However, after reviewing the regulations, TDA announced that course sponsors can not ask applicators for their SSN, as the Pesticide Regulations do not require such information.

Section 7.24(o) states Sponsors of approved activities shall: (1) prepare a roster of applicators that attend the activity which contains at a minimum, the date, course number, the pesticide applicators name and current license or certificate number and the location of the training.

What CEUs do I need?

The Texas Department of Agriculture requires private pesticide applicators to earn 15 hours of continuing education units every five years to maintain their licenses, including 2 hours of IPM and 2 hours of Laws & Regulations. Commercial and Non commercial applicators must obtain 5 hours each year including 1 hour from two of the three following categories: Laws & Regulations, Drift Minimization, or Integrated Pest Management.

New License Renewal Dates

Effective September 1, 2005 each commercial or noncommercial applicator license expires on the first anniversary of the date on which it was issued or renewed. Also, each private applicator license expires on the fifth anniversary of the date on which it was issued or renewed.

No CEU Carryover

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) must be acquired prior to renewal. Extra CEU credit obtained in one renewal cycle can not be forwarded and used in the next renewal cycle.

Last Chance Video course numbers.  Also, the Last Chance Videos will be receiving a new course number for 2007. Be sure to read your emails in January to get that number.
